A ‘Mirage’ is defined as a misleading perception where something that is seemingly true is evidently false. Much like the droughts faced by Australia, many individuals take the resource of water for granted, often wasting water because of the misconception that two thirds of the earth is water. ‘Mirage’ intends to deliver a message that our actions will impact not only our way of life, but the environment.

Created in the Summer of 2019/20, droughts were at their worst in Australia. In light of this, Mirage references this event to highlight the misperception of the availability and abundance of water.

The sculptures for Patterns in Nature were created by:

Emily Dinh, Angelique Milojevic and Natalie Sarmiento from Mirage (Water)

Esha Chowdhury, Jack Stannard, Xavier Tafft and Jessica Yu from Flicker (Fire)

Gemma Ferguson, Eric Koo and Luke Turk from Haze (Air)

Yichen Bao, Henry Deng, Jude Horsburgh and Eve Taylor from Pulse (Earth)
